Accolade for Stationmaster.

Stationmaster's signal honour

First ScotRail stationmaster from award-winning Aberdour Station has been recognised at a prestigious UK ceremony for environmental projects.

Trevor Francis was shortlisted for his 'Individual Contribution' at the Network Rail environment Awards held at the Natural History Museum in London.
He has manned the ticket office at Aberdour station since December 1993 - where, in his spare time, he spends up to six hours a day nurturing floral displays and maintaining a variety of plants, shrubs and trees vhich attract wildlife, including woodpeckesrs.

Trevor's "remarkable dedication" to mproving the station's environment was rewarded with an accolade for Best Station Garden at the Community Rail Awards in 2005.
His work has also helped Aberdour win the Best Kept Village" title for the Fife Council area for two years running.

His passion has not only further enhanced one of Fife's most picturesque villages but inspired other stations on the Scottish network to follow suit, including Ladybank, Linlithgow and Haymarket.

At the ceremony, Trevor said:,"It's a joy to keep the station well-maintained and to see the pleasure that the displays give to visitors.
"Even if we make one passenger smile on their way through, we've done our job. My view is that customers expect a certain level of service - then we give them more."

At the awards, First ScotRail was also hailed for its environmental efficiency which has seen the company introduce various measures to support its green credentials, including "Energy Champions" at depots and stations who oversee recycling.
