Welcome to Alsager

Alsager is situated in the Borough of Congleton, in the south-east corner of Cheshire near to the Staffordshire border; handily placed, mid-way between Crewe and the towns of North Staffordshire.

It has a population of approx 12,500 and covers an area of more than 2,000 acres of the Cheshire Plain.

There are excellent road links with the A34 to Newcastle-under-Lyme, Trentham and Stone to the south and the A50 leading to the other constituent towns of the Borough of Congleton, Sandbach, Middlewich, Holmes Chapel and Congleton itself.

Alsager has direct connections with the M6 at junctions 16 and 17.

There is a frequent bus service between Crewe and Hanley with a connection to Leighton Hospital, Crewe.  Alsager Station has regular trains running between Derby and Crewe with a direct rail link to Manchester Airport.

Since the coming of the railway in 1848 Alsager has progressed from a sleepy farming hamlet, into a Victorian suburban village and now a bustling university town. However, Alsager still retains much of its country village atmosphere. The second world war had a big impact on Alsager with the building of the Royal Ordnance factory initiating housing development to accommodate its workers.

The weekly market, on Wednesdays, is very popular. Alsager has a close community spirit with many varied social groups for all ages. There are two fine churches, the 18th century Palladian-style Christ Church and the late 19th century St. Mary Magdalene.

Alsager won the Cheshire Community Pride Competition for the Best Kept Village in 2004.
