| Ashmansworth Parish Council represents the community of two small villages: Ashmansworth (SU415575) with around 60 houses and neighbouring Crux Easton (SU427564) with around 20. The villages are two of the highest in Hampshire and surrounding counties, at around 235 metres or 770 feet above sea level and are located just 11 km/7 miles south-south-west of Newbury just off the Newbury to Andover Road, A343 and are under ten minutes' drive from the A34 providing excellent links to Oxford, Newbury and Winchester. | Crux Easton has a very small church and also a fascinating Wind Engine which has recently been restored and is open to the public once a month. For centuries, Ashmansworth was a purely farming community, with several farms located within our villages, but a number of these have now closed or amalgamated, so far fewer residents now rely on farming for their income. |
| | Excavations at Ashmansworth Parish Church in the late nineteenth century revealed some interesting remains, still displayed in the church, which indicate that our history goes back to at least Roman times. The church is our oldest building, dating to early in the 12th century and still has fascinating wall paintings, although these are fading with age. | | There is also a memorial to the composer Gerald Finzi whose family home is adjacent to the church. In the porch, two memorial windows by Whistler represent a tribute to English Music and to Joy Finzi. | | Walking: The area is very popular with walkers and cyclists due to the beautiful views of unspoilt countryside. There are a number of footpaths and the long distance track, the Wayfarers' Walk, skirts our villages. | | Ashmansworth Village Hall is in popular use, although a modernisation project has recently started - fundraising has started so there are lots of activities going on. We have an annual Burns' night celebration, Flower Show, Fete, Harvest Festival and other social events in the village. Please check the Community News section to see what's happening and Organisations to find out about hiring the hall. |
| We have one small but excellent pub, The Plough, in the middle of Ashmansworth, and several farms, but sadly no longer any school, shop or post office. However, there is still a daily bus to Newbury! |
