So What Can my Parish Council Do ?
Well apart from getting the village grass cut?. the powers of a parish council are wide and various. The Council exists as the most local form of government and is there to serve and represent the parish and their residents and electors.
There are some long standing powers:
· Allotments, Parking, Village Halls
· Churchyards and Cemeteries
· Commons, Open Spaces,& Playing Fields
· Traffic Calming, Street Lighting
· Local Transport & Special projects
But these are only some of the areas where your parish council can act to improve the village, its amenities and support to local people.
· Parish Councils also play a major role in local consultation and involvement in the development of community strategy.
· County consultation on waste, tourism, education, environment and transport
· District consultation on planning in your parish, local plans for your area, provision of services within your district and parish.
· Government consultation on legislation which might affect the future of your village, district, county or country.
Recently Government, supported by the other main parties, have offered parishes new powers and new funding with opportunity to achieve the QUALITY status to make real & efficient improvements with and for your community.
