PLAN: Report July 2008
Cornish and Devon Report July 2008
Bridgerule Parish Council is pleased to announce Defra and Devon County Council have awarded Grants to the Parish for a Parish Plan valued at over £6,100 (including voluntary and In-kind contributions). Work on the Plan commences with a series of "Events" being planned actively encouraging everyone to have their say. This will be an opportunity for local people to take a look at Bridgerule people's interests and concerns, recording, what is good and maybe not so good about the area, and making it possible for the locality to influence decisions on how Bridgerule might develop for the future. More information will be available on a stall during Revel Week. This will also be a first chance to see details of the new playground equipment due to be installed at the Playground by the Parish Hall thanks to the generosity of public donations, community benefit funding negotiated by the Council and the fund raising of local people over many years. Another success story has been the tremendous work undertaken by a team of Councillor and community volunteers who recently tidied up and fenced the Southfield Open Space. The Council has also had some success in liaison with other agencies working to address concerns raised over the condition of Plot 26 at Littlebridge Meadows and Plots 22 and 23 at Southfields. It was good to see so many parishioners attend the Annual Parish Assembly in May who joined the Council in deploring the threatened replacement of the Postal Service in Bridgerule Village Store with a mobile service. Council and community were of one voice in condemning the proposals and supporting community efforts to secure a continued Post Office service at the Village Store. Responding to consultation on proposals to introduce Unitary Authorities in Devon the Council policy is to support maintaining the Status Quo. The Parish Council normally meets on the last Wednesday of each month but the next meeting will be on Wednesday 6th August at 8 p.m. at Bridgerule Parish Hall.
