Parish Newsletter March 2009

Parish newsletter March 2009

Following the resignation of Mrs. Penny Copestake as Clerk, the Parish Council has appointed Mrs. Julie Mason as her replacement. Julie has settled into the role very well and all members look forward to a long and pleasant working relationship. Planning was very often the most time consuming part of the Parish Council agenda but, perhaps due to the present economic climate, there seems to be less applications being submitted. This does not mean, however, that the Parish Council has been inactive. With the new Cheshire East Council replacing Cheshire County Council, Congleton Borough Council and others on the 1st April there has been many meetings to attend where the functions and the ambitions of the new Council have been explained.

Following the recent wintry weather, which necessitated the use of salt to keep open the main roads, the condition of the road surfaces has deteriorated at an alarming rate and it is expected that many complaints about potholes will be forthcoming during the next few months.

Some members have recently been approached asking for information on how to become a member of the Parish Council. The next Parish Council elections are not due to take place until 2011 when due notice will be given on how seek election to the Parish Council. It is possible of course that there could be a vacancy before then and if this does happen then there are procedures in place to fill that vacancy.

Anyone interested in becoming a Member should keep an eye on the Council notice boards and the Parish Council website.

The black and white railings at the junction of Goostrey Lane/ Middlewich Road/A50 are in a dilapidated state and the repair and painting of them has been discussed many times at P.C. meetings. Unfortunately whenever we approach the Highways authority the same answer comes back "We have no money".

With the demise of Congleton Borough Council and Cheshire County Council on 31st. March the Parish Council would like to take the opportunity to thank County Councillor Ken Oliver and Borough Councillors Peter Kolker and Patrick Furlong for their support over the past few years. Members look forward to having the same support and help from the new Cheshire East Councillors
