Minutes of Drumbrae Community Council Meeting held on Monday 10th March 2008 In the Rannoch Community Centre. Present : R Kingman, J Bain, O Durie, R Blanch, K Wright, J Herschell, S Frost, J Martin. In Attendance : Inspector Murray Dykes, PC Tara Adams, Cllr C Keir. Apologies : Cllr R Aldridge, Cllr J Dawe, M Nelson, G Dott, H Hall. A total of 8 members of the public were in attendance. MINUTES OF THE PREVIOUS MEETING The minutes were approved by J Herschell and seconded by K Wright. The Chairman welcomed everyone to the meeting then introduced Inspector Murray Dykes to the meeting and after talking about his position he handed over to PC Tara Adams who spoke about the crime report. There were a total of 23 crimes recorded in the area for the month of February, some of these included crimes to business premises and road traffic offences.10 of which were solved. After reading out the crime report the meeting was opened up for questions and the first question was about the ongoing problem of the bus stop on Drum Brae Drive at which it was notified that PC Whelan was still sorting out this. Inspector Murray Dykes asked what the problem was about and K Wright explained the situation and PC Tara Adams stated that if a driver breaks the Highway Code by driving dangerously then if 2 persons saw the incident then taking down the registration number and reporting it to the police. The police could then issue a warning to the driver. The next question was about the cars parked at the football matches on Clermiston Park which is also an ongoing problem. The next question concerned the erection of an unknown lamp post style object at the bottom left hand side of Parkgrove Street at which Cllr Keir stated that he would look in to it. A variety of other questions were raised and answered at which PC Adams finished and handed over to the Chairman. CHAIRMANS REPORTS The Chairman reported on the meeting he had with the local teenagers in the Munro Centre, He was picked up by PC Whelan and went to the meeting at which he listened to the teenagers and stated that it was a good meeting and that he was impressed with the way the meeting was handled. The meeting regarding the pavilion has not happened yet but several suggestion were made including laying tarmac around it, a local resident talked about the problems they have with the pavilion at this moment. No planning applications have come in for this month. The former Somerfield store still has no buyers but interest has been shown for the car park for houses. The 4 small shops will stay but the main store will be reduced in size to 5,000 square feet. Our MP John Barrett is going to hold a public meeting about this. A question was asked about the car park whether East Craigs PS could acquire it for the School. The Chairman spoke about the guest speakers we had last month and it was agreed that the Secretary write a letter to the appropriate department with regards to the proposed cutbacks that were talked about supporting no cutbacks. TREASURERS REPORT Money in Bank: £691.64 Money out: £109.00 Money left in Bank: £582.64. Olive spoke about the proposed donation to Clermiston Primary School stating that we cannot give this donation at present. Olive also stated that she went to talk to the Headmistress about this and she did not know about the request and was not happy that we were asked. A.O.B. A complaint has been made about Drum Brae Leisure Centre closing the Creche and we have been asked if we would write to the council to try and stop it. Cllr Keir talked about this stating that they had no money to keep it going, The Community Council will write in. A request has been put in for the council to correct the name of the Drumbrae C/C it has been stated that the word Drumbrae should be Drum Brae. Forms for an application for funding for Drum Brae Park and Clermiston Park were handed to K Wright who will sort this out. A request has been made to invite an official from Edinburgh Zoo to talk about the reasons why they want to sell of some of their land for Housing and then ask the Council for more land from Corstorphine woods. The date of the next meeting will be Monday 14th April 2008 at 7.30pm in the Rannoch Community Centre.
