MINUTES OF THE PREVIOUS MEETING

The minutes were approved by J Martin and seconded by K Wright.

The Chairman welcomed everyone to the meeting and asked how many were attending this meeting as a direct result of the flyer that was put through the doors next to Clermiston Park. The Chairman was delighted that so many turned up it was explained that the Police would talk first then we would go on to the topic of Clermiston Park.

PC J Whelan spoke about the various crime reports for the local areas in Clermiston and Drum Brae there was 54 recorded crimes of which 23 were solved which was down 10% from this time last year.

He spoke about what types of crimes there had been such as a car stolen after someone broke in to a house and stole the car keys, several high value TVs were stolen in the Parkgrove area and 2 Ornamental Lions were stolen from a garden in Parkgrove valued at about £200.

After speaking about the crime report the meeting was opened up to any questions.  A couple of questions were asked about all the cars that were parked on the field and pavements on Sunday during the junior football match, PC Whelan stated that everyone should phone in and report this and the police would come down and check but as it is not a high priority it could be a while before any police came.

CHAIRMANS REPORT

The Chairman spoke about the meeting he had with several officials to discuss the problems relating to Clermiston Park and after talking about it he opened the meeting up to any questions.

One resident immediately spoke about the trees and bushes asking that they be chopped down as they were blocking the view, at which the Chairman stated that the trees and bushes were funded by a grant from the urban forestry Grants and had to stay but he stated that the trees and bushes should be trimmed down every few years.

Another resident stated that the trees and bushes provided a wind break when standing at the bus stop etc.

The Chairman asked what everyone thought could be done about the pavilion area and many topics were discussed such as tennis courts, bowling green etc, and after much discussion it was decided to ask that since the all weather football pitch was a success then it was proposed that we ask that the rest of the area be made in to further areas for such things as Tennis, Basketball etc.

Drum Brae C.C will contact Ron Tulloch to ask about a Multi Sport area be made on the remaining pavilion area.

One Resident asked if Hand Rails could be put in all the way down the path that goes through the end of the park at which Douglas Cruikshank stated that this should be a relatively cheap and easy task to do and a letter from the community council will be sent to him to officially request this.

A meeting is arranged for Wednesday 21st May with the Police regarding Drum Brae Drive and the traffic island, The Chairman will be asking what can be done to sort this problem out.

A resident asked what can be done about the problem of dog fouling, The Chairman stated that he would ask for the Environmental Wardens to do a blitz on Clermiston and Drum Brae Park over the next few weeks.
