Minutes of Drum Brae Community Council Meeting held on Monday 9th June 2008

                                          in the Rannoch Community Centre.

 

 

Present:                 R Kingman, J Bain, R Blanch, M Nelson, S Frost, G Dott, D Ward.

 

In Attendance:      PC J Whelan, C Keir Cllr, K Swinney  and W Hope from

                              Corstorphine Community Council.

 

Apologies:            J Barrett MP, R Aldridge Cllr, J Dawe Cllr, O Durie, C Day,

                             J Herschell.

 

A total of 14 members of the public were in attendance.

 

MINUTES OF THE PREVIOUS MEETING

 

The minutes were approved by S Frost and seconded by G Dott.

 

The Chairman welcomed everyone  and introduced the guest speakers for tonight Stuart Buchanan  from Cardross Asset Management Ltd and Penny Turnbull from Canmore Housing Assotiation who were here to talk about the proposed housing development on the grounds of West Craigs.

Everything that was stated at this meeting is on sheets provided at the time and handed out to everyone, and any other information needed is available on the following websites http://www.scotland.gov.uk/ http://www.edinburgh.gov.uk/ and http://www.westcraigsedinburgh.com/ and after explaining everything Stuart Buchanan

opened the meeting up to any questions.

A good variety of questions were asked ranging from Access to the houses, Bridge over railway line, Walkways, How many cars would use this route, Stuart Buchanan and Penny Turnbull answered all the question and Cllr Keir stated that he was opposed to this development and so were Cllr Aldridge and Cllr J Dawe.

The Chairman thanked everyone and then asked PC. J. Whelan to give his report.

This months crime report was read out  which included the following, The theft of a motorbike for which 2 persons have been charged, Serious assault involving a knife, he then explained about the incident that happened at the Maybury Casino involving a shooting incident and finally about another shooting incident behind the Rainbow.

 

CHAIRMANS REPORT

 

The Chairman and June Herschell met with the Police and officials from the council to look in to the problems with the traffic Islands on Drum Brae Drive of which a report is being sent in by the Police before they decide what is needed.

Another meeting took place at the old tennis courts with officials  and the suggestion is to restore them which would cost approximately £12,000, the Chairman is talking to the Active Schools officials to find out if there is a demand for this.

Question about the railing on the path down through the park, the Chairman stated that it could take a while to go through the process, The Minute Secretary will find out more on this matter.

West Edinburgh Neighbourhood Partnership meeting at the Rannoch Centre Wednesday 11th June 2008 at 7pm and Douglas Ward stated that there is still a lot of money available to groups in this area and asks that we let as many of them know and to apply for grants up to £5,000.

There is to be a talk at Edinburgh Zoo on the subject of Corstorphine Hill by the Edinburh Parks Rangers for which anyone can go, Leaflets available to those interested.

The Chairman thanked everyone and stated that there will be no Meeting in July so the next Meeting will be in August.

 

The date of the next meeting will be on Monday 11th August 2008 at 7.30pm in the Rannoch Community Centre.
