A Sperm Whale

Whale Watching - Kaikoura
The first activity we booked through the Kiwi Experience was the Whale Watch in Kaikoura – it was unbelievable. If you have never seen a whale in real life then you need to do a whale watch tour and Kaikoura is a great place to do that. Just off the coast is one of the biggest canyons in the world – but it is underwater, so it has the depth for whales who spend a lot of their year there.
The company we went with says they have seen all types of whales, from Humpbacks, Sperm, Orca and even the might Blue whales.
On our trip we saw three Sperm whales which was amazing. The picture above is my favourite and we got to see it three times. The whales only bring their tails out of the water on their dive after taking some air and then they don’t re-surface for up to 40 minutes.
