Fernhurst Village Post Office  Fernhurst village

Fernhurst is a village in the Chichester District and includes the settlements of Kingsley Green, Bell Vale and Henley Common.   It is located on the A.286 between Haslemere in Surrey and Midhurst and there is a local bus service between those two towns and a main line railway station at Haslemere.

The village originally developed around the crossroads (The Cross) and The Green, where St. Margaret's church, the nearby cemetery

and the Red Lion public house are located and where the Fernhurst Revels fete is held each year.  Iron working took place at North Park Furnace in the 17th and 18th centuries.

The village is surrounded by hills, including Telegraph Hill, Marley Heights, Bexley Hill and Blackdown, which is the highest hill in Sussex at 919 feet.   The parish is ideal for walking, having a comprehensive network of footpaths.

The village has a number of shops, restaurants, public houses and a social club and many clubs and organisations exist for a wide range of interests.   A recent development is the Fernhurst Centre which is an internet cafe as well as hosting meetings, various training courses and acts as a local information point for the District and County Councils.

There is a recreation ground with good sporting facilities, which it is hoped will be further developed in the near future, a youth club, scout group and a well-used and refurbished village hall that is available for hire by local groups and for private functions.   The Fernhurst News, a monthly community magazine, is distributed throughout the parish.
