Shadow Parish Council meeting

The second Annual Shadow Parish Council meeting, held on 17th October 2007, was declared an "excellent night" by all those involved. Teams from Great Sankey High School and Penketh High School debated issues from an agenda (see below), just as the real Parish Council do, although probably with more gusto! In fact there was so much enthusiasm shown it proved impossible to choose the best team, and so the schools will share the trophy for best team, keeping it for 6 months each. Thanks are due to all who contributed to making the night such a success, especially Madame Mayor and her Consort, and Nicola Davis from the Warrington Guardian who acted as official judge; teachers and pupils from the schools and Councillors Veronica Hudson and Allan Bird who helped organize things and Councillor Phil Hudson who recorded the evening in photographs. Meeting of Great Sankey Shadow Parish Council
On Wednesday 17th October 2007 at 6.30pm in the Tim Parry Centre Annexe, Wroxham Road
AGENDA
1 To elect a Chairperson
2 To elect a Vice Chairperson
To Debate the following proposals: This Councils resolves 3 The legal age to buy cigarettes is now 18. The Government should be giving help to 16 to 17 year olds who are addicted and were allowed to buy cigarettes until 1st October
4 Gang culture needs to be stopped, and so should the use of the term "Gang Culture" as this gives it more prestige
5 Prince William and Kate Middleton - are they fair game for the Press?
6 It is time to replace the traditional school uniform with something more contemporary
7 With the benefit of experience, and the decline of school dinner uptake, the Council still supports the move to healthier options for school dinners
8 The Brit Awards or the Grammys - which is more relevant?
9 The Parish Council should build a Multi Purpose Activity Court to give something for teenagers to do at night and reduce antisocial activities.
10 This council supports the views of the Chief medical officer for Cumbria, that the legal age for consuming alcohol should be reduced to sixteen, within the controlled environment of a Public House coupled with a zero tolerance of alcohol consumption in other public areas.
11 This Council believes that the change over to digital TV, should be phased in rather than be compulsory as this has passed a financial burden on low income families for little gain.
