Cereal Partners Update
As part of the project announced in September 2005 to relocate production from the Head Office site in Hertfordshire to Staverton and Bromborough in the NW, remodelling of the site is now well under way. The Sugar and Chocolate coated Cornflakes products have been transferred to Bromborough and the plant has now been modified to produce Standard Shreddies as well as sugar and coco Shreddies. Commissioning of the new plant started in Ernest in late February and we are now well on our way into full production. To support the increase in production, we have transferred all the people from Welwyn Garden City who wanted to come across and recruited an additional 25 new employees. A further 20 people will be starting in June (these people were identified at the same time as we interviewed the first phase of new people).
We are now turning out attention to upgrading the 'Small Biscuit shredded Wheat Plant and the New 'Big Biscuit' Plant, these will be commissioned later this year.
We have also appointed a new Haulier, UFD group based in Bristol, to ship finished product to our current warehouse in Welwyn. You may have noticed that work has already started on the new Warehouse in Melksham close to the police station on the opposite side of the A350, we expect it to be operational this Autumn. From now until then, all finished product will be shipped to Welwyn via Corsham and will not come through the local villages. Once the new warehouse is operational, we will split the outbound traffic equally between Staverton and Holt. The long term intention is to route all outbound traffic along the proposed Hilperton relief road to Melksham once it is built. All inbound traffic, i.e. raw materials, will be also be routed in via Corsham so should not come through the village.
So, by the end of the year the project will almost be complete and the site will be transformed back to a similar level of activity that there was when CPUK and Nestle shared the site back in 2004.
I would finally like to thank the whole community for its tolerance of the company. I am sure that there may be times that you might not appreciate our presence, but I am confident that the site is adding to the prosperity of the local area providing several hundred direct and indirect jobs as well as pumping many Millions of pounds into the local economy.
