Report of Parish Council Meeting 8th September 2004.
At the meeting of Kessingland Parish Council present were 10 councillors and two district councillors.
Councillor Brown was presented with a Suffolk Acre Community Initiative Award certificate for his work in the Community.
Discussion took place regarding the closure of Church Road Post Office Councillors voiced their concerns from the village about the closure of this facility. The meeting was advised that the manageress of the High Street Post Office would be pleased to operate a post office two mornings a week at the Beach end of the village, if suitable premises could be found.
The meeting received an update on the Community Centre?s activities.
The Parish plan has been finalised and distributed. The first working party will meet on September 23rd at 7.30pm to discuss the next course of action. Many of the villager?s requirements will be incorporated within the new library project. Volunteers are needed to assist with the monthly newsletter ? this is part of the Quality Parish Status agenda that the Council must take into consideration when seeking accreditation. Delivery could be with the Kessingland Times and available at all public venues.
In the Committee reports the Beach Warden reported that bonfires had been seen on the beach. The councillors questioned whether there were any controls over beach kites, as several had been on the beach recently.
The police report listed 44 events of which 33 were crimes, five assaults with three people arrested, two burglaries in other dwellings, 13 thefts, five from vehicles, five criminal damages, one to a house door on the High street, one arrest, two people arrested for drink/driving.
