Kessingland Parish Council

November 2007

Issue No. 19

Chairman's Comments.

The last two months has seen considerable progress in the setting up of an Emergency Strategy for the Community of Kessingland.

The idea of an emergency plan for the village was first discussed by the Parish Council in late 2005 following a meeting with Waveney District Council's Emergency Planning Officer. The decision  to move ahead with    formulating a Community Emergency Action Plan was taken  in February 2006, and this was followed  in March 2006 by sending out an emergency questionnaire asking for  volunteers to come forward and assist with collating skills and equipment.

In October 2006 after working on the Plan, based on feedback from the questionnaire, a Public Meeting was held, it was following this meeting with volunteers  from the  Community that an Emergency Planning Committee was formed its terms of reference  being to provide the  Community of Kessingland with an Emergency Strategy for all eventualities.

As a result of a number of meetings since that date, this month the Emergency Committee produced the    Emergency Plan and Protocol Document, together with a newsletter and emergency guidelines for residents. The last two documents are being delivered to every household, the guidelines come in a peel back self adhesive wallet  that can be fixed on the inside of a cupboard or similar location.

The bottles for the DataLink system mentioned in the newsletter are an invaluable way of letting the emergency services or members of other agencies know your medical needs and as stated are available through the Parish Clerk

Councillor Vacancies.

There are still two vacancies on the Parish Council for  anybody who feels that they can spare a few hours a month and work with a very dedicated working for the benefit of the Community of  Kessingland. Application should be in  writing  through the Parish Clerk.
