Issue No 22

CHANGES AHEAD FOR KESSINGLAND !!!

With the failure of Ipswich to get its Unitary Status, there is now a review taking place by the Boundary Committee on behalf of The Secretary of State, this is to provide advice by the 31/12/08 on possible alternative proposals relating to Unitary Authorities for Suffolk.

This has already prompted stories in the Press and Media of a combined Great Yarmouth/Waveney Unitary Council under the name of " Yartoft"  This is only one of the options being considered by the Boundary Committee.

By July 2008 the Boundary Committee will have published their draft proposals, which will be followed by a period of public consultation, ending at the end of September.

It is the Parish Councils intention that as soon as the consultation document is published and the full facts are know, there will be a public consultation in Kessingland to obtain the      Communities views. This may be through a public meeting or by questionnaire, but whichever method is used the Community will be urged to support the Parish Councils initiative as it will have implications for the future of Kessingland and where it stands in the re-drawn map of Suffolk

Four Towns Bus.

In the last newsletter the Parish Council asked for volunteers to come forward so that the 4 Towns Bus coming  Kessingland would be a viable proposition. This was at the request of the Youth of the village they wanted an alternative venue for them to go to in the evenings apart from the Hang Out.  To date there  has been no response to the request and if that remains the case then Kessingland will lose out yet again to another worthwhile facility.

For the second time of asking parents / adults are required to volunteer to assist the     qualified youth worker to cover the sessions that the bus would be available.

No volunteers means that the bus may not come to Kessingland

Community Resource Centre / Library / Very Sheltered Housing  -  Hall Road

Work was due to start on the 21st April 2008, but following a preliminary archaeological    evaluation some items have been found which date from  possibly Early Bronze Age or Neolithic. That being the case over the next four weeks archaeologists will be conducting a full site        assessment at the conclusion of which, depending on if anything else is found, work should start.

T.O.P.

On the 29th April, Parish Councillors met with Richard Brundle the Regional Co-ordinator of T.O.P. ( Tax Help for Old People).  As a result of this meeting it has been agreed that the Parish Council will assist Mr. Brundle to  advertise the service T.O.P. gives to the over 60's, with a view that it may be possible for surgeries to take place where assistance can be given to anybody who qualifies for free tax advice. It is hoped that  Mr Brundle  will also be able to give talks to any interested groups who are looking for a guest speaker. If there is enough interest and clients, this service will move into the new Community Resource Centre.
