Langsett is situated on the western edge of Barnsley in the County of South Yorkshire.  The village of Langsett consists of about a dozen houses.  There are two public houses, which serve home cooked meals and one cafe/shop, which is used by cyclists and walkers and the local community.

The homes in Langsett have mainly evolved from farmhouses and homes belonging to the Yorkshire Water Board.  There are two or three reservoirs in the valley which are used by the general public for the fine walks around them.  The scenery is varied.  From the car park in Langsett it is possible to walk through coniferous and deciduous woodland, straight across open moorland, (there is access to the Derwent Valley,) or to take routes which will take you past small dairy farms and through ancient hay meadows. Bird watching is a major pastime in the area.

The moors are used for sheep grazing, shooting, water gathering and recreation.

The main road passing through Langsett is the A616, which can be found by leaving the M1 northbound at junction 35A.  This meets up with the A628 at the other end of the valley.

There is a picnic area, just off the main road, which can be a starting point for a good walk.  There are toilets for the disabled.  The bus stops nearby.
