Art Group
MARGARETTING ART GROUP Margaretting Art Group, now in its 8th year, meets at the Village Hall every Wednesday morning from 9.30 to 12.00 noon during school term times. Each week at least one still life is arranged for members to draw or paint, and every few weeks we have figure drawing, with volunteers taking turns to pose (with their clothes on!). Some members prefer to bring along photographs or pictures to copy in their chosen medium. Whatever they chose to do, there is always plenty of encouragement from this friendly group, with tips and advice from the more experienced artists if required. Apart from these regular activities, about once a term we try to arrange a demonstration or talk, which is open to members and non-members alike. Past demonstrations include a portrait by Ron Clarke, landscape in pastel and figure painting in acrylics by Alan Gwinnell and a watercolour landscape by Colin Steed. There are occasional sales of art books and magazines, and an art video library is to be initiated in the summer term. There is a wide range of ability within the group, from complete beginners to active artists, so no one need feel they are not good enough; all newcomers are welcomed. At present attendance is disappointing, and the group is having to dig into its reserves in order to pay for the hire of the Hall; hopefully numbers will pick up again soon. Fees are modest, at £2 per session, with an additional termly membership charge of £1. Tea and coffee is 20p a cup. If you are interested in drawing or painting, whatever your ability, come and join us on a Wednesday morning. Or phone Jennie Scott 01277 354821, or Susan Keeble 01277 353973, for more information.
