ABOUT US

Mission Statement:

At Margaretting Church of England Primary School, we will continue to maintain a caring, happy environment that seeks to enable all children to achieve their fullest personal, social and academic potential as individuals and as members of the school and the wider community.

The School Organisation:

There are 3 classes in the school, each with a full-time teacher:

Class 1 (Reception, Year 1 and Year 2)

Class 2 (Years 3 and 4)

Class 3 (Years 5 and 6).

Each child is taught at his/her own level of ability within the boundaries of the National Curriculum.  Children needing learning support are taught both in the classroom situation and on a withdrawn basis but, obviously, teaching programmes are tailored to take into account their difficulties.

Class 1 have their own teaching assistant (TA). There are two other TAs, one helps by giving extra support for those children who need it, as well as working with the teachers to deliver the Art programme. Our other TA works mainly with Classes 2 and 3 and is also a Midday Assistant. We also have a part-time music and french teacher to provide specialist teaching.

The School:

The school was opened in 1864 and remains a very traditional Victorian building. It was extended in 1892 and again in 1900. Since 1979 various additions to the school site have been made:

1979 - New toilet block for the children.

1995 - New library and cloakroom area.

2001 - Office and staff facilities improved.

         2001 - Computer suite added.

2003 - Foundation room for Reception children created.

2004 - Class 3 had a new interactive whiteboard installed

         2005 - Class 1 & 2 had a new interactive whiteboard installed.

         2005 - A new hall/cloakroom/library built.

ICT is a great strength of the school and all the staff have a large input.  As a result we have been recommended by our School Development Advisor from County to support other schools who are not as successful in this area.

Governors:

Our governing body is a mixture of people from our local community, the church, the LEA (Local Education Authority), parents and staff from our school. Our parent governor representatives are Matthew Cravitz, Suzie Wood and Vicki Walsh. All of the governors know our school very well and are encouraged to visit regularly.

Home-School Partnership:

We very strongly feel that there should be a partnership between home and school to produce the best possible education for our child.  To this end, a policy has been developed and, should you decide to send your child to Margaretting, we hope that you will want to sign up to this partnership.

Pastoral Care and Discipline:

As a small community school, we have insight into the background of all our children. The staff are very caring and pay great attention to the welfare and well being of all our charges. Values, standards and attitudes of the school community are made clear to the children by example and discussion so that they are absorbed by them and made their own. Great emphasis is placed on the issues set out in the school 'Code of Conduct.'

Code of Conduct:

- Take responsibility for your work and actions

- Work hard and do your best

- Move around school thoughtfully and carefully

- Respect property belonging to other people at school

- Be polite and consider other people before yourself

- Be honest.

- Be tolerant of each other

- Be tolerant of each others' opinions

- Show respect for each others' cultures

- Let there be equal chances for everyone

- Show care for the environment
