THE NEW PLAYGROUND GROUNDWORK HAS COMMENCED TODAY

14TH FEBRUARY 2005

WONDERFUL ACHIEVEMENT! WELL DONE TO ALL INVOLVED

The Charity MAGIC Carousel was formed in September 2003 with five inaugural members:

Jayne Walker: Chairwoman

Barbara Williams: Secretary/Treasurer

Nancy Thompson: Funding facilitator

Alison Riley: Trustee

Gillian Booth: Trustee

Paul Gough: Co-opted Trustee

'MAGIC Carousel' MAGIC stands for 'Middleton Action Group Investing In Children' Their aim to provide amenities for local children.

Owing to Middleton's geographic position and the lack of amenities locally for  children the charity decided to raise money for a new playground. Quotes were sought and the Playdale quote £92,000 was accepted as the best value with  latest EU standard safety regulations  adhered to.

Next was the necessity to raise money for the project. The group held its first event  in 2003 a Halloween Party which was very successful. For the Halloween festival the Carousel invited the villagers to take part in a Scarycrow Garden Competition, this was fantastic and had a wonderful showing of witches and goblins complete with lights and eerie music. This is to be an annual event.

There followed fetes and car boots, raffles, Quizes, Sports day, sponsored bike rides, jumble sales and the inevitable filling in of forms for grants. Living Spaces offered the first of £41,000, celebrations! All the charity had to do was match it! And they did!
