Glastonbury Festival - The Wet Years
Glastonbury The Wet Years:As festival goers are getting ready for the first Glastonbury festival since 2005 we look back at Glastonbury - The Wet Years. I first went to Glastonbury Festival in 1998 and have been 3 times since then. Each was an experience; however the majority have been wet. 1997 was one of the first mud bath Glastonbury Festivals. 1998 was a very wet year and I remember coming home with Trench foot having not taken any wellies. Our tent floated away on the Friday night and we were all heavily sleep deprived by Sunday afternoon. 2004 was mainly dry; however it did rain on the Saturday making the ground muddy for the rest of the festival. 2005 again was a very very wet and muddy year. The muddiest since 1998. The heavens opened at about 4am on the Friday, with heavy rain, thunder and lightning. I remember waking up at 4 and having to go outside to re-peg the tent because we thought it was going to blow away. The first bands were cancelled due to the lightning and new rivers and streams had appeared everywhere on the site. It really didn't take very long for the whole site to become a mud bath. I stupidly left the wellies in the car and had to walk 2 miles through mud and streams in trainers to get them. I will definitely not forget them again. The one thing that Glastonbury is great for though is that even if it does rain you will still have an amazing time. Three out of the 4 festivals I have been to have been wet, yet I will continue going back. This years festival (2007) looks like it might be wet again, although not as bad as the Wet Years you might just want to pack those wellies just in case. Then when you have packed them don't forget to take them with you from your car. If anyone has any Glastonbury Festival tales then please email them to me at mike.scoones@thelocalchannel.co.uk and I will happily post them on here for you.
