Thakeham Village Hall Information
THAKEHAM VILLAGE HALL
The Village Hall is a charitable trust, run by a Management Committee, most of whom represent the Village Hall users. Three "outside" members are elected. The Chairman is John Bearman, the Secretary is Gillian Bird, and the Treasurer is Neil Goodman. The Management Committee are the trustees of the charity, and the Parish Council is the custodian trustee. The charity owns the Village Hall building, but the land it is on is leased (at a peppercorn rent) from Heveco Mushrooms. The lease can be reviewed annually in July. The charity, however, owns the land at Greendene, on which is Kingdom Hall (a complicated story!).The land is leased to the Jehovah's Witnesses until 2024.Their rent is reviewed every five years, in line with the rate of inflation. We continue to improve and renovate the Village Hall as much as possible within its limitations, and we are grateful for grants from the Parish Council and Horsham District Council for this. Recently, we have extended the Pre-School storage room, and re-arranged the main storage area, to give the Toddlers their own storage room. In addition, we are continuing to replace the exterior cladding of the Hall, much of which has seen better days. Regular Hall users are Pre-school, Toddlers, Gardeners Club, W.I., Bingo, Karate, Thakeham Morris, and the Parish Council. Recently, the Bridge Club has started meeting every Friday afternoon. The Hall is available at appropriate times for private hire, though certain restrictions do apply. For more information, contact the Booking Secretary Gillian Bird on 01798 813056.
