The Local ChannelWelcome to Walton, Cheshire WALTON PARISH, CHESHIRE Walton Parish is situated South of Warrington on the A56 road to Chester. The Bridgewater Canal passes along the southern boundary and then through the village. The Manchester Ship Canal forms the northern boundary. The Parish consists of two Wards, Higher Walton and Lower Walton. The total population of 1200 is divided almost equally between the two wards. Higher Walton includes the estate village, purpose built in the 19th Century by Lord Dares bury (to house his workers) and the surrounding farmland. The village is a Conservation Area with a number of listed buildings .On the edge of the village is Walton Hall, formerly home of the Greenall family of brewers. Now owned by Warrington Borough Council, it is popular for recreation and functions. Its grounds include ornamental gardens, lake, a children?s play area, a small zoo, and a public golf course. The village pub, The Walton Arms, was originally a The Bay Horse Farm, which also sold ale and milk to the villagers, horse drawn packet boats and travellers to Chester. Lower Walton is a leafy commuter suburb, mostly built in the early 20th century and home to the Parish War Memorial and an inn (The Ship) and a pub (The Stag). The area is beautiful in the spring with many blossoms. The whole parish is well worth a visit as we can offer so much to all ages. - www.thelocalchannel.co.uk/sandridge
