SUMMER  2005

A421  IMPROVEMENT

You may have seen the proposals offering two options for this improvement in the local press and at a couple of local exhibitions in Wavendon and Aspley Guise.  Option 1 is a new road extending the H10 cutting across the A5130 and open fields to J 13.  Option 2 is to dual the stretch of the A421 between Kingston Roundabout and J13. Needless to say, most local people are strongly opposed to Option 1 and we believe a J 13A should also be considered on the Fen Farm site.  Apparently the Highways Agency don?t agree!

TENNIS  AND  BOWLS  CLUB  LAND

The application to build warden assisted housing on this land was once again withdrawn at the last minute.  Many residents wrote again on this one, and we are sure you will need to do so yet again if you wish to object.  MKC recommended a refusal of the permission as a definite replacement site for the clubs had not been found.  We gather the owners of the site are discussing this with various people and have submitted an application to Mid-Beds to relocate the Bowls Club to the field opposite Aspley Guise common.

CLOSURE  OF  POST  BOX

The post office apologise that it has been necessary to close the post box in the wall by its entrance, but it is now too small for the volume of post put in it at times and mail is no longer secure.  We are looking at alternatives but for the time being if you don?t want to cross the road, you can take any post to the post office counter ? leave it in the left hand counter (as you face it).

WIMPEY PLANS FOR THE NAMPAK SITE

Many of you saw the proposed plans which Wimpey drew up for discussion and indeed they received comments from a large number of residents which was great.  We too have had a couple of meetings with representatives of Wimpey and are expecting the full application for the first two phases of the site development any day now.  Once again, as soon as we have these details we will arrange for the plans to be displayed in Woburn Sands so watch the notice board at the top of Chapel Street and the ?Around the Villages? section in the Citizen to see when and where this will be.  Although so many of you responded to Wimpey last time, it is vital you comment again if you wish to do so but this time it will be to Milton Keynes Council.  We expect the application to be heard by Development Control at MKC in September or October, and members of the public are welcome to attend that meeting.  We?ll put notices up of the date and time when we know it ourselves.

We do know that Wimpey have made some amendments to their original plan as a result of the public consultation and discussions with us.  We understand the house number has come down from 350 to 299, still 39 more than the outline permission granted to Nampak.  We also believe all the four storey buildings have been removed from the Station Road frontage as well as those close to The Groves boundary.

Wimpey will need to enter into an agreement with MKC once permission is granted for the development of the site  This is likely to include the handing over of the old Plysu Sports and Social Club, refurbished, and with extended car parking to this Town Council.  A new children?s playground will be provided on the site and the area around the lake on site will be landscaped. Contributions to other facilities will include Asplands Surgery to help fund an extension

SPRING  ON  EDGEWICK  FARM 2005

The buttercups earlier this year were a picture.  Unfortunately the sheep preferred eating them to looking at them, so the lower field was soon bare.  However the top fields have had a continuous covering of wildflowers: ladies smock, birdsfoot trefoil, speedwell, stitchwort, red and white clover being just a few.  The red glow was provided by the sorrel.

The birds seen in recent months include greenpeckers, martins and swallows and on the pond, mallards and moorhens

The volunteers have been busy attacking some of the ?thugs? in the fields ? the nettles and brambles.   These are particularly bad in the bottom field, and unfortunately the sheep don?t seem partial to them. It is possible that some cattle, which are probably less fussy, will join them sometime in the future.  With the help of the Greensand Trust volunteers, the orchard has been mown, and one path cut through the middle field.  We hope to add another path or two next month.

The volunteers meet at the Farm at 10.30a.m. on the first Sunday of every month, and would welcome some new members.  Tasks range from topping thistles, to raking hay or clearing ditches.  Even if you can only spare an hour or so, you would be welcome.

WOBURN  SANDS  FRONT  GARDEN  COMPETITION

The judging of the annual front garden competition will take place on Friday 29th July this year, please take part by entering or take 2 minutes to nominate a garden that catches your eye or which you admire, pots and hanging baskets will be judged separately the more people that enter and nominate the better community event this becomes.  Telephone 585368 with your nomination, or pick up a form in the library and put it in the box.  Judging will take place on 29th July.  Frosts sponsor this event and very generously provide a lovely first prize and gift vouchers.  We have named this event in memory of Brian Frost.  Presentations will be made on 29th August

Snippets

  • Steetley Mining will soon be ceasing all operations in the area and all footpaths are currently being restored.  The new plantings of mixed woodland will be completed before they go.
  • We have asked MKC to consider making the stretch of Cranfield Road by Deethe Farm and the industrial estate there into a 40 mph zone and similarly the Bow Brickhill Road from Woodleys Farm into Woburn Sands.
  • Woburn Sands Band will be holding their usual August Bank Holiday fayre on Mowbray Green in the afternoon.  Everyone welcome!

The only criteria is that the applicant is a full time student and under the age of 25 years and lives in the relevant area (ancient parish of Wavendon)
