Association for Copthorne residents

COPTHORNE VILLAGE ASSOCIATION

Welcome to our Web page where we explain the benefits of being a member of the Copthorne Village Association (CVA), and outline the aims and objects.

Copthorne is a village of some 1600 households, two thirds of which are paid up members of the CVA.  Why do we exist?  By speaking for such a large body of residents we have a stronger voice than the individual, and, if necessary, we can act effectively with financial backing.  That is why we need the maximum membership and are constantly asking more residents to join.

The CVA's Constitution lays down the objects as follows:

a.                  To provide a forum where the residents of Copthorne can discuss matters of general interest and concern which affect the well-being of the Village and a forum where residents can make decisions and act on them where deemed appropriate.

b.                  To monitor any building proposals in Copthorne and the surrounding area considered by the CVA to be of importance and to represent the views of the CVA members to any Planning Authority, Development Agency or Developer involved in any such works.

c.                  To monitor matters affecting highways, footpaths and transport infrastructure in and around Copthorne and where appropriate to represent concerns to the relevant Authorities.

d.                  To monitor matters affecting the amenities of Copthorne and to use the Association?s best endeavours to preserve and/or improve such amenities.

e.                  To inform members about matters affecting Copthorne which come to the notice of the CVA by means of periodic newsletters to be published and distributed to members and to promote two- way communication with members through local stewards or any other means deemed practical.

 f.                    Where members of the Committee deem it appropriate, to facilitate and      or  help  with any social or similar activity of benefit to the Village.

THE COMMITTEE

Apart from the Officers of Chairman (Lady), Treasurer, and Secretary, the Committee is divided into three parts, each responsible for one of the three areas; Planning, Highways and Amenities as outlined in the Constitution. Other members of the Committee are concerned with publicity and the distribution of the regular newsletters.  New Committee members are always welcome.

The CVA has encouraged the formation of the Copthorne Sports Executive (to promote existing and new sports and their facilities), and the revival of Copthorne Neighbourhood Watch and its association with Sussex Police.
