Albrighton is located roughly half way between Wolverhampton in the east and Telford in the west and is well served by public transport and major roads in both directions. It forms part of the District of Bridgnorth and County of Shropshire and is split into a South Ward with 2149 electors and 9 councillors and North Ward with 1269 electors and 6 councillors. Much of the Council's activity is fairly routine and changes little from year to year. This includes the maintenance of a small proportion of our local street lights, maintenance of the Village Green and playground at Abney Avenue/Albert Road, installation and removal of Christmas lights, provision of allotments at Clockmills, leasing of the Old School for community use, provision of financial support for the Swimming Club, Melville Club, Red House, Summer Play Scheme and youth facilities. Another regular and important part of the Council's activities has been the provision of comments on all Albrighton planning applications and response to various consultation documents. The Council has always been keen to consult local residents and the annual Parish Meeting is always well attended. In 1996 the Council supported the production of a Village Appraisal and, more recently, a Village Design Statement and Parish Plan all of which have been produced by local voluntary effort. These consultation exercises have informed the Council of local needs and resulted in a number of initiatives, including the provision of affordable housing on land owned by the Council and support for the police in the form of provision of computer equipment and a laser speed gun. The Council realises that it can often achieve more through partnership and, in conjunction with its neighbouring Council at Donington with Boscobel, has provide a community a transport mini-bus, called the Parish Flyer, using funding from the Countryside Agency. It also co-operates with Donington and with the District Council in managing a local nature reserve and has recently participated with the District and County Councils in completing a Village centre enhancement scheme. It is hoping in the future to embark on a similar partnership initiative to provide much needed leisure facilities. To reach this site directly - www.thelocalchannel.co.uk/albrightonparishcouncil
