School News July/Aug 2007
Marsh Baldon School News The summer term has brought some relief from the seemingly interminable rain of last term. 60 children inside all day can be a handful! The good weather means more outdoor activities are possible. Maypole was on Friday 25th May and thank you for all who attended. Sports Day will be on Wednesday 4th July.
We continue to experiment with ways to reduce the traffic in front of school. The Walking Bus is proving increasingly successful with up to 23 children using it (about a third of the school roll). Some of these would walk anyway, but several cars are now parking in the Seven Stars, rather than in front of the school in the morning. We will continue with this and other efforts to reduce congestion at pick up times.
On the new hall, building will start once access for builders is agreed by the various parties involved.
Finally, there are several changes to Governors which will come into full effect next term. Ali Barne is stepping down after several years of outstanding service to the school. Gillian Diggle is also stepping down, because she and her family have moved to Dorchester. Because of her move, Sandra is also stepping down as a Governor. We held a farewell service for her on 15th June. Ali and Gillian have been replaced by Fran Butler and Sue Shaw as parent Governors. John Clark is stepping down as Chair of Governors after a fairly hectic two years. He will stay on as Deputy-Chair. He is replaced by Sue Benton. Sue has lived in the village for over 25 years and comes to the Chair having been head of Newlands Girls School for 14 years. John Clark Can you help? Marsh Baldon School is desperately looking for volunteers to supervise lunch-times from 12 to 1.00, alongside teaching assistants. (Most parents are either at work or looking after small children and are therefore unavailable). If we have enough volunteers, each person would only have to do once a month. If you are interested, please contact Sue Shaw (11 The Croft) on 341605 or e-mailsue@moore-shaw.fsnet.co.uk. Many thanks.
