Harold Messenger RIP

Harold Lamburn Messenger - A tribute

With deep sadness we record the death of Harold Messenger after a long illness at the age of 86.  Harold hailed from Old Marston and came to live in Baldon Lane with his young family almost 50 years ago.  He became a well-known village stalwart who was always available with his DIY skills to help in village social events such as fetes and horse shows but his energy and kindness also extended to those in the village who were in need of assistance.  He played cricket on the green as a wicket keeper, batsman and had a "wicked" late cut.

However, Harold's chief claim to fame lay in the Village Hall where he was the driving force behind creating a new hall out of the ashes of the old, and caring for it lovingly thereafter.

He will be fondly remembered and much missed by those in the community who knew him well and particularly by his friends on the Village Hall Committee.
