Lunch on the Green

Following the success of last year, this year's event was a sell out. In spite of the wet weather, 250 people arrived with salads, puddings and chairs to enjoy lunch with family and friends from the village. It rained, but this did not dampen spirits as groups set up their lunches on tables arranged under the marquees and adorned with beautiful flower arrangements. We were entertained by a band who livened the mood, if that was necessary, and during a lull in the rainfall we were treated to an excellent falconry display by Ray Prior. The spit roast offered a choice of lamb or pork, both of which were delicious, and the bar did spirited service throughout. It was the perfect occasion for acquaintances to become friends and for newer arrivals in the village to meet other people.

None of this would have been possible without an enormous amount of organisation and effort put in by the Baldons' Events Committee. Marquees do not go up on their own, publicity takes time and the added entertainment has to be planned and booked in advance. I am sure I am not alone in wanting to thank them for all their hard work in making this such an enjoyable day. I am looking forward to next year!                         Honor Juniper
