District Councillor Aug 07
I very much enjoyed being at the opening of the ‘Green Belt Way' on Friday 13th July. This is to be a 50-mile circular walk around Oxford which has been organised by the CPRE. Boris Johnson opened it, reiterating his support for the Oxford Green Belt in its entirety. Whilst we are on the subject of the Green Belt I have nothing to report as yet on the verdict of the South East Plan Examination in Public held in February and March at which I made representation on behalf of our area of the Green Belt. The report should be finished and sent to Government at the end of this month and we would expect to receive a copy at that time. I will of course report back to you on that immediately.
2008 National Bus Pass Scheme. In April 2008 the current concessionary travel scheme, which allows free local travel on off-peak bus services, will be replaced by a national scheme. This scheme will allow pass holders free off-peak bus travel anywhere within England on local bus services, but it will not include long distance services such as National Express. The new national bus passes will not be despatched until February or March 2008. Existing passes will be accepted until the end of March, after which current bus pass holders will be asked to submit a request for their new bus pass with a new passport size photograph to ensure that bus passes show up to date images. Digital photos can be taken at the Council Offices in Crowmarsh to be used on the bus passes. Residents should telephone 01491 823413 to make an appointment if they would like a photo taken digitally, free of charge. Application forms for requests for bus passes for the new national scheme will be available in due course.
Junction closures in M40. The Highway Agency has informed us that due to bridge repairs there will be periodic closures at junctions 7 and 5 on the M40 for seven months from 7th September.
