Marsh Baldon School News
We are pleased to welcome Ros Latham on to the school's governing body as a diocesan representative.
In the week before half term the school was inspected. We received the report after the holiday and all parents have now been sent a copy. The inspector commented on "the school's involvement in the community, the family atmosphere and the willingness of staff to support individuals." He was impressed by the presentation the older pupils did at the Governors Annual Parents' Meeting. He also noted "Pupils of all ages and abilities are clearly happy and develop secure and purposeful relationships with their peers and adults." Of course, as with any school, there are areas we have to work on. We had already built into our development plan all the issues he noted and we shall be working on them throughout the rest of the academic year.
We would like to share with you particular successes achieved by some of our older pupils. Congratulations to all three of them: - Shakur Williams has been selected to play the young Simba in 'The Lion King' at the Lyceum Theatre in London. At the end of three stages of auditions he was chosen as one of three boys who will play the part for the next eight months. The role is a demanding one as he has to sing, dance and act to a very high standard. He also has to keep up with his school work as he will be taking his SATs next summer. - Lydia Baber Day took part in the county gymnastics championships which involved pupils from six gyms across Oxfordshire. Lydia trains three times a week, putting in a total of nine hours practice. Her dedication and skill were rewarded with a silver medal for her beam work and a gold medal for floor exercises. - Latysha Harrison is a member of an Oxfordshire team of five dancers called ‘Furious'. As the best U12 team in Great Britain they represented the country at the world championships of street hip hop dancing in Germany. They came 6th over all in the world.
Dates for you diary - we should like to invite everyone to the school on Saturday 1st December at 10.30am to see the millennium mosaic which was made by the children and funded by the Parish Council. We shall also be holding our Christmas Fayre which will run from 10.30am until 12.30pm. Do join us for seasonal refreshments. There will also be a raffle and stalls selling cakes, toys, bric-a-brac, books and many more. All profits will go to the PFA to buy equipment for the children. We look forward to welcoming you on 1st December. - Our senior pupils will be putting on a Christmas production of 'Cinders'. The dress rehearsal will take place in the village hall on Monday 3rd December at 1.30pm. You are cordially invited to attend - just turn up - but please bear in mind it is a rehearsal. The actual performance will be on Wednesday 5th December at 6.30pm in the village hall. Tickets will be available from the school. - Our younger children will be performing a nativity play in the church at 9.00am on Friday 14th December. Everyone is welcome. Sue Benton
