Welcome to Marsh Baldon

From the District Councillor, Feb 08

From Elizabeth Gillespie

Oxford Green Belt: We are waiting for Hazel Blears to announce the Government's response to the proposal put forward by the Panel appointed to review the South East Plan in which they recommend the building of 4000 houses on the land south of Grenoble Road. We have now been informed that this news might be delayed until as late as May. In the meantime I would urge everyone to sign up to http/handsoff.southoxon.gov.uk  This website is not fully live yet but has been set by SODC with two aims, that of registering  names in order that you can be contacted directly when the fight begins and, vitally, to gauge and demonstrate the strength of opposition to the proposal. It is extremely important that there is substantial response to this website as it is a crucial weapon for SODC in its battle to protect the Green Belt. If the residents of the Green Belt do not show enough interest it will be difficult for SODC to defend it for them.

Future Waste Collection: Following the survey carried out, the Council has approved the following recommendation:

Weekly separate collection of food waste

Kerbside collection of glass

Kerbside collection of recycling (paper, cans plasics)

Fortnightly residual rubbish collection in wheeled bins

Fortnightly opt-in charged for garden waste collection in wheeled bins (as at present)

The full report of the Household Waste Survey and background information is available on the District Council website,
