The New Curates
A POTTED GUIDE TO THE NEW CURATE(S) (Hannah Cleugh and her husband David, currently students at Ripon College Cuddesdon, will shortly be joining the Dorchester Team) When I was little, much to my father's irritation, I had a great liking for musicals. I particularly liked The Sound of Music and Mary Poppins, but at the moment I find myself thinking about The King and I, and the song that goes, ‘Getting to know you/ Getting to know all about you/ Getting to like you.....' At the beginning of July, my husband David and I will be joining you in the Dorchester Team as your curates. You probably won't see that much of David, who will be based in Dorchester with Sue and in the Eastern Cluster with Nigel, but you will see me as I work with Ros here in the Berinsfield Cluster. I grew up in the north-east (even further north than Ros!), and for the last three years, David and I have been living rather closer at hand in Cuddesdon, where we have been training for ordination. Before that we lived in Oxford, where we met while we were undergraduates. David read Maths at New College, and I did Theology at Worcester, but we got to know one another through church, and through the group of friends we formed there. After graduating, I stayed on to do research into the Church of England in the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries and David, after a short exile in Hertfordshire to work at St Albans Abbey, worked for Blackwell Publishing. We got married in 2005, and will be spending this year's wedding anniversary on ordination retreat at Cuddesdon! One of the best things about training at Cuddesdon has been the beautiful countryside round here, and we're delighted not to be leaving that behind, but Isaac (our collie) is looking forward to exploring some different walks. I'm also often to be found up a bell-tower, or else at home - either in the garden, the kitchen or with my nose in a book. So this is a really exciting time for us, as we look forward to our move to Berinsfield and to starting our ordained ministries among you. We look forward to getting to know you, and to learning about you and from you, as with you we seek to show God's love in Christ and grow Christians in all our villages. See you soon!
