MARSH BALDON SCHOOL NEWS

And so we enter the Summer Term, and the school continues to be a very vibrant and

enjoyable place to be. It has been a very busy time and will continue to be so right up

until we finish in the middle of July.

The highlight of recent events was the School Council's Bring and Buy Sale, held

just before the half term. The children organised it all themselves and lots of people

turned up to buy cakes, toys and books as well as being able to keep themselves

going with the refreshments that were on offer. Even teachers had sponges thrown at

them!! It was a great day and the children raised over £140, half of which is being

donated to the Blue Cross (Pet Charity).

We also took part in the Oxford Artweek and we were a venue for people to come

and view children's art work. We had some lovely comments from visitors and it was

nice to see how many villagers there were who visited.

The same week was Walk to School Week and on Wednesday 20th May, the whole

school either walked or cycled to school. Luckily it was dry!!

We have also taken part in lots of art activities, Netball tournaments, Tag Rugby

festivals (we were seen scoring a try on the local TV news!!), Music concerts, author

workshops, Mini Olympics and a Swimming Gala.

We have been visited in school by the Blue Cross, the RNLI, the Fire brigade and a

Healthy Lifestyles workshop. We have also visited the Day Centre in the Village Hall

on a number of occasions where the children have performed for the Senior Citizens.

We do have a very exciting website where you find out all about our activities. Please

visit www.marsh-baldon.org

It is an extremely busy time and there appears to be no letting up before we finish in

the summer. I am extremely grateful to all the staff for all the work they put in for the

benefit of the children. This school is certainly one the village can be proud of.

In May, we were presented with our Healthy Schools award by Anne Whitehead

from the Oxfordshire Healthy School Team in a special assembly.

We are now looking forward to our Maypole Display, Sports Day and our whole

school visit to Warwick Castle. And then there are the special end of term events

including our leavers' assembly in the church on July 17. We have a special group of

Year 6's this year, who will be leaving us at the end of term and we wish them every

success in the future but hope also that they will come back and tell us how they are

doing.

We have also recently held an Open Morning for parents of children starting at the

school in September. It is largest intake group for some time and it was great to meet

everyone.

Below are just some of the events we have lined up for the rest of term. If you are not

busy, please come and visit and join in with the children as we head towards the

summer holidays. Hopefully the weather will be kind to us so we can continue to be

‘out and about'.

Thurs 2 July Sports Day

Wed 8 July 3.30pm ‘Pirate with Molly on Board' Presentation by Key Stage 1

Thurs 9 July School Visit to Warwick Castle

Fri 10 July 9.00am Achievement Assembly

Fri 17 July 9.00am Leaver's Assembly in the church

Please say hello to the children if you see us in and around the village. On behalf of

everyone at the school, I hope everyone in the village has a great summer. We reopen

on September 3rd.

Best Wishes

Nick Pitson - Headteacher
