Baldon Feast 2009/10
After several weeks of dull and rainy weather it was a joy to see Baldon Green on a dry warm afternoon decked out with a vibrant funfair, live band and assortment of stalls, games and activities. Thank you to all who organized, helped and came along. At its meeting of the 8th of September The Baldons Parish Council declared Baldon Feast 2009 a great success with even more people this year, all of whom seemed to have had a good time. The Council agreed to support Baldon Feast 2010 which will be held on the 14th August. So if you are thinking of holidaying next year make sure you keep that Saturday free so that you may enjoy a real fun day. Many remarked on the truly relaxed atmosphere and the opportunity to just sit with a drink and listen to the band. Great new additions this year were "Bowling for the Pig" by the Village Hall, "Splat the Rat" by the School, a "Book Stall" by the Church and the "Dog Show" so ably organized by Lisa with the various classified groups being masterly judged by Dorothy, Chairman of the Parish Council. On top of that we were pleased to have representations from the "Globe Retreat Centre", and "Age Concern" besides a couple of colourful market stalls. Not to be left out was the presence of Oxfordshire Fire Brigade. The Funfair for their part gave a free ride for every household in Nuneham Courtenay and The Baldons and also made some voluntary donations besides offering help toward next year's Feast. For next year it is hoped to have other extras and all this will help to forge a real future for the Feast. As Clerk I shall be contacting all interested parties during October. Should anyone wish to take part or have any ideas for diversions or improvements please contact me before the end of the month so that things can be put in place. Again I offer my grateful thanks to all the helpers and sponsors. Ralph Slaney - Clerk to The Baldons Parish Council Clerk@BaldonsPC.org.uk 01865 343 275 BALDON FEAST REACHES ISRAEL! The "Guess the weight of the cake" competition led to Ros Latham receiving an intriguing request from Israel: "My Dad lives in Oxford, and each summer we (my Israeli husband Arik, three children and me) descend upon him for a month or so. Invited by a friend, we went to the Marsh Baldon fete and in the course of it, I entered the competition "Guess the Weight of the Cake" and, much to my surprise, made the winning guess. The cake was delicious, so delicious indeed, that I am writing to you in consequence. I wanted (a) to pass on my compliments to the person who made it, and (b) ask if it might be possible to have the recipe (!) - although I would understand if it were a closely guarded secret." The editors would like to congratulate the baker of the cake, Alison Lyall.
