Baldon Events Committee Annual Review 09
BALDON EVENTS COMMITTEE: 2009 ANNUAL REVIEW Another busy year with three very successful BEC events: Lunch on the Green, the James Bond Ball and the Fireworks. BEC also managed the drinks tent at the Baldons Feast, and arranged for the Christmas tree and lights on the edge of the Green - which we hope will become a new festive institution! It was nice seeing so many children and great that Father Christmas came. We have been really pleased with the strong village attendance at all of these events, and by the very positive feedback we have received. There have been a few changes to the committee. Elizabeth Gillespie and Simon Winn have both resigned, due to demands from their many other commitments, and we thank them for their hard work on behalf of BEC over the past few years. We have welcomed two new members, and the Committee now comprises: Chris Lake (chair), Sonja van Dijk (vice-chair), John Maskell (treasurer), Linda Simpson (secretary), Bruce Don, Adam White, Sally Margan-Barrett and Katia Vastiau. We are very encouraged by the positive messages emerging from the Parish Plan questionnaire. For example - over 86% support or strongly support the Fireworks & Bonfire, 83% the Lunch on the Green, 63% the Ball. This year BEC was able to contribute funds to two very worthy local causes - purchase of stage lighting for the Baldon Players/Nuneham Village Hall, and servicing of the bells at St Peters church, as well as the Christmas tree and lights. Funds have also been earmarked towards fencing around the expanded St Lawrence churchyard. In previous years we have assisted The Junior Baldon Players, the Youth Club, Garden Club and a Seniors' Christmas Lunch. We have also purchased two further marquees, and various other useful items of equipment. (NB Marquees and equipment are available for hire by villagers at well below commercial rates.) Our accounts show a balance of £4,369 at the end of the year. We need to keep £3,500+ in reserve as a contingency for the Fireworks in case this is a washout and we lose the income. If you wish to see further detail regarding the accounts, please contact John Maskell, our treasurer. Looking forwards to 2010, two dates for your diary - watch this space for further details: • Barn Dance - Saturday 22nd May, 7.00 pm, Parsonage Farm, Marsh Baldon - Martin Delafield has very kindly made available one of his barns. There will be a pig roast, bar, and band. Children welcome. • Lunch on the Green - Saturday 26th June - similar format to previous years. As ever, we welcome feedback, suggestions for future events and, of course, events can't happen without our army of volunteers and for whose help we are very grateful - so please help out if you can. Contact Chris Lake on chris@dedicatedwines.com or 343395. Chris Lake - Chairman
