Baldon Events Committee Dec 2009
BALDON EVENTS COMMITTEE Fireworks and Funfair November 7th turned out to be very good weather for fireworks night. As many will have seen from the banners we decided that we would ask for donations this year of £10 for each car (£5.00 two years ago). This worked well on a number of fronts: we reduced the numbers of visitors considerably, those that came were generally happy to pay and therefore used the bar/food and it discouraged the youths who had arrived with their own supplies of lager previously. The donations from the parking were enough to cover the fixed costs (fireworks, insurance and firework training course). This year we were able to organise well in advance and had our Risk Assessment completed well in time for the Insurance. We despatched our pyrotechnic team (Mike and Paul) on a professional firework course in Kent. Unfortunately a number of cars were parked in front of various houses, claiming to be friends, and then entered without making a donation. Next year, if you would like to have a No Waiting cone outside your house can you please let us know. We can only run this event from the donations and it is not fair on those who have paid to see other visitors getting in for free. BEC are very grateful for all of those villagers who kindly made donations in the buckets in the marquee. We were also grateful for the number of visitors who took the trouble to come up to stewards/marshalls to say thank you for both the quality of the fireworks and the organisation, many saying that it had been the best that they had attended. Hopefully by reducing the numbers it enabled all the villagers to have a comfortable and enjoyable event, whilst still attracting the funds to finance it. BEC would very much like to thank those that volunteered to act as Marshalls/Stewards and helping in the marquee for the evening, as well as setting up/ clearing away, as without your help this event could not take place.
