BALDONS PARISH COUNCIL NEWS

Parish Precept for 2010/11

The Parish Council has agreed to recommend to SODC that because of the low level

of inflation that there be no increase in the precept for 2010/11.

Parish Plan

The Council has received the initial analysis of the Parish Plan questionnaire and will

be considering the issues raised and participating in the ongoing discussion of future

priorities and action plans. The council will again raise the concerns about speeding

and traffic in the village with the highways dept and request that a highways

representative attend a future council meeting.

School Parking

The Parish Council has been working with the school governors and staff to develop

ways of managing the cars stopping and dropping off or parking all day outside the

school, which has been a cause of complaint from villagers. The school has

encouraged parents to make greater use of the walking bus and this is helping. The

council has also asked that staff cars no longer park all day on the inner edge of the

green. To help manage this situation the council has recently undertaken some

groundwork on the piece of green in front of the school to enable staff to access it off

the school drive more easily; this is not creating an official car park, which is not

permissible on the Green, but recognises the informal usage by the school over many

years. In addition the council has supported a request by the governors to the village

hall committee for use of a small number of parking spaces at the village hall. This, if

allowed, will help to ease some of the pressure.

B4015 Reduction in Speed limits

The council has now been formally consulted on the County Council's proposals to

reduce the speed limit to 50 mph on the B4015 from Clifton Hampden to

Chiselhampton. Whilst supporting the overall proposal the council has also

responded that the OCC should lower the limit on the stretch from Golden Balls to

Marylands to 30 mph. These views being shared with neighbouring parish councils.

Subsidised Bus Services 49/49a

The council has also been consulted on the future of the subsidised 49/49a bus

services whose contract expires in 2010. It seems likely because of low usage that

the 49a service may be dropped however OCC may be willing to consider

alternatives. The council in its response will argue strongly for the bus service to be

improved and has made suggestions for OCC consideration. The council will be

notified of changes to the contract, which will start in June 2010, next April.

NUNEHAM COURTENAY PARISH COUNCIL NEWS

The parish council met on 11 November.

Mr Ronald the County Council traffic engineer explained what could be done about

reducing traffic speed in the 30mph zone. The councillors discussed the County

Council's plans for new signs through the village. The proposals can be seen on the

website and you can send your comments on these to the clerk.

The council decided to set the parish element of the council tax at £40 per band D

household for next year. If you have house in a higher band, you will pay a bit more

than this. The council did not ask for any council tax for the last two years and now

has very little cash left. The money (about £3,400 in total) will pay for a clerk and

administration and allow about £1,200 for grants and projects to benefit the parish.

The councillors have ideas for projects but would welcome your suggestions.

The council agreed to ask the district council for help to set up a flood self-help group

to try to pre-empt any further flooding. Thames Water, working with South

Oxfordshire District Council, have increased the capacity of the culvert behind 38

Nuneham Courtenay to drain water from the fields and drains on that side into the

southern ditches. The district council does clear the leaves on pavements which block

the drains, but only once in the autumn. If you are able to clear leaves from a stretch

of the pavement this would help keep the drains clear and prevent any flooding.

The minutes of the meeting are posted on the website and on the village hall door.

The website is at http://nunehampc.webs.com/ - please do have a look.

The next meeting is on 7 January at 7pm in the village hall.
