BARNSTAPLE YOUTH COUNCIL MINUTES of the EXTRA-ORDINARY YOUTH COUNCIL Meeting held on TUESDAY 9th October 2007 at 4.30pm in the Guildhall, Butchers Row, Barnstaple PRESENT: Youth Councillor Miss J Parkhouse (Chairperson) Youth Councillors: K Mitchell, A Spear, Miss V Rowe, Miss A Thorne, M Cannon, Miss S Carter, Miss R Lessiter, G Checkley, Miss A Leaman and Miss E Briggs In Attendance: Miss V Pine (Clerk to Barnstaple Youth Council) YC37 APOLOGIES As recorded on the attendance sheet there were no apologies received. YC38 MINUTES RESOLVED that the minutes of the meetings held on the 4th September 2007 and the 2nd October 2007 be approved as a correct record and signed by the Chairman. (NC) YC39 INFORMAL DISCUSSION RESOLVED that the proposals made at the informal discussion held on the 2nd October 2007 be approved and adopted. (NC) YC40 BARNSTAPLE ALLIANCE QUESTION TIME The Youth Council Clerk explained to the Youth Council that at the last meeting Youth Councillor Miss A Thorne had the idea of holding a chat show on the problems within Barnstaple. The Youth Council decided they would like to incorporate this idea into the Question Time Event. The Youth Council discussed possible questions that could be asked to open the chat show. Youth Councillor G Checkley left the meeting at 5.05pm and did not return. RESOLVED that the following questions be used to start the chat show: - Do you think that the Youth of Barnstaple are too stereotyped? If so how can we change this? Do you feel threatened in certain areas of the town? What sort of events would you like to see take place in the town? How do you think the Police treat young people? Do you think Barnstaple has a good atmosphere towards young people? What do you think Barnstaple could do to give you things to do in your free time? Would you like somewhere you can find out what is going on in the town? If so where? (NC) YC41 MEETINGS The Youth Council considered the possibility of holding more regular meetings. The Youth Council felt that it would be more beneficial if Working Parties were to be set up for each project consisting of 3 or 4 Youth Councillors. RESOLVED that Working Parties be set up for the delivery of projects. (9.1) YC42 REMEMBRANCE SUNDAY The Youth Council were asked if they would like to take part in Remembrance Sunday and lay a wreath. The Youth Council decided that they would like to take part in this event and lay a wreath. RESOLVED That the Youth Council take part in Remembrance Sunday That Youth Councillor Miss E Briggs lay the wreath and if unavailable Youth Councillor Miss A Thorne lay the wreath.
