NOTES of a Meeting of the UNDER 18'S CLUB WORKING PARTY held at 4.30pm on 10th April 2008 in BARUM HOUSE, THE SQUARE, BARNSTAPLE.

Present:     Youth Councillors:  Miss A Thorne and Miss B Lessiter  

ELECTION OF CHAIRPERSON

Due to only two members of the working party present it was decided that Youth Councillor Miss B Lessiter be elected Chairperson for this meeting and the item be placed on the next Agenda when more members are present.

APOLOGIES

As recorded on the attendance sheet apologies were received from Youth Councillor Miss S Carter.

MINUTES

RESOLVED that the minutes of the meeting held on the 20th November 2007 be approved as a correct record and signed by the Chairperson.

UNDER 18'S CLUB

It was felt the venues identified at the meeting of the 20th November 2007 were feasible, but before contacting potential venues.  The under 18's club should be open one or two nights a week and should be in a central location.   Research would need to be carried out into the requirement for this facility.

Research should be carried out through the two secondary schools and the College in Barnstaple.  A survey is going to be produced and the each tutor group within the school to answer the survey by a show of hands, and the survey returned to the Youth Council.  The questions which will be asked within this survey are: -

·        Would you like an under 18's club in Barnstaple?

·        Would you go if there was one provided?

·        Do you think it would benefit the youth of the town?

Once the surveys have been returned the working party will write to potential venues.
