Brighter future for Cemetery.

 

A BRIGHTER FUTURE FOR BEAR STREET CEMETERY Barnstaple Town Council and the Children's Summer Club have held a competition for a mural design to be painted at Bear Street Cemetery, Derby Road.

The competition was held in June, 14 designs were received from children in the town.  The Mayor and Mayoress Councillor J Phillips and Councillor Mrs Elkins judged all the entries to find the winning design. 

 Holly-Mai McCartney aged 9 was awarded 3rd place, Ariel Barrow aged 13 was awarded 2nd place and Victoria Brennan aged 10 was awarded 1st place.  The Mayor presented the winner Victoria Brennan with a certificate and £25 voucher at last Monday's Cemetery and Grounds Maintenance Committee Meeting.  The Runner-up received a certificate and £20 voucher and the highly commended received a certificate and £10 voucher.

The prize money was donated by the Mayor, Councillor Jeremy Phillips and the Children's Summer Club.

The winning design will be painted in the work area at Bear Street Cemetery by the Children's Summer Club on Monday 28th July 2008.  Funding for this project has also been received from Tarka Country Trust and the H and G de Freitas Charitable Trust.
