Kirk Sandall Youth Club
The Kirk Sandall Youth Club is situated on Dentons Green Lane and opens three nights a week. Members come from all around Barnby Dun, Edenthorpe, Kirk Sandall, and Clay Lane. Janine Marland is the new worker at Kirk Sandall Youth Club, with a new worker we have new opening times as follows: Monday - Junior Night year 7 from 7pm to 9pm (Senior Member Support)Wednesday 7pm - 9pmThursday 7pm - 9pmBoys Group - Wednesday 4pm - 6pmGirls Group - Thursday 4pm - 6pmOutreach (working on the streets) - Thursday 7pm - 9pmAt this moment in time the Youth Club are working on the changes regarding the committee, as many young people have moved on - this means re-training other young people regarding these roles and responsibilities. Kirk Sandall is also working with the Curlew Centre three days per week. There are two groups of year 9 boys who work to a programme set by the Youth Service around personal and social education. The group are also enrolling on the Youth Achievers Scheme - this is currently running at the Youth Club on an evening. Kirk Sandall has recently had two new computers installed in the coffee bar area - the young people say it is a "Cyber Café". Over a year ago the young people did a presentation for a sexual health clinic, they haven't heard anything for a while but the room is ready for when it happens. At the community meeting on the 11th of October the kids from the youth club asked for a strip of Tarmac by the youth club to "Skateboard" on. This we hope will be looked at, for the teenagers have very little to do apart from hang around the shops. The kids feel this will be a much better site for them as it is nearer than the Glass Park and better supervised. There also is a feeling amongst the kids that a few mounds of earth could form a very useful B.M.X. track at a low cost to the Council on the same site. Thanks goes to Tim and his mates for the suggestions. The kids from Edenthorpe and Kirk Sandall (Brecks Lane side of Doncaster Road) feel the area know as Denton's Park is an idea spot for the Kids to play close to the houses, off the roads, and with some degree of supervision. Yet the only areas the council want to spend money are at the Glass Park and the Edenthorpe Business Park. The funding for the Tarmac has now been approved and we believe D.M.B.C. will be putting up some lighting for the area. All that it leaves now is some fencing and the area cleaned up. I see that someone has been reading this site as fencing will shortly be placed round the Youth Club, it has been a long time coming. Once all this has taken place we will update the photo. Come on kids let us know your viewsand we will put them on here for you.
