Friends of Dentons Green Park
The friends of Dentons Green Park have been together almost a year now, with the aim to upgrade and improve the area. At the back end of last year a consultation exercise was carried out to find what the people around the park would like to see there, this has now been completed and a design drawn up for the area. The findings where that the age group for the equipment be age 5-12, as for the equipment itself, the park is only big enough for five items. Swings came out on top followed by slides and a climbing frame, with seesaw being the fifth. As there were a lot of other requests for items we have picked out the most popular, a football pitch seemed to fair very highly so it is are intension to form a Five-A Side football area with a youth shelter and bin close by near the Youth Club end. The group would like to thank all who took part in this exercise and all of you who came to our two Fun Days, the first at the Youth Club raised £413.89 and the second at the Assembly Hall raised £340. We would also like to thank Barnby Dun with Kirk Sandall Parish Council who has donated £200 towards the Five-a-Side goal posts. The other improvements to be carried out in June/July are the removal of the concert posts, new fencing around the perimeter and planting of shrubs and trees. If you would like any more info or would like to help, please contact the Cliff Hampson on 885656. Work is still ongoing and now we have a new fence and the old posts have been removed we are hoping to start with the play equipment in the new year. The five-a-side football pitch will be marked out by the Youth Club and we hope to retain the basketball hoop as we know it is well used. Friends of Dentons Green Lane Park (8/11/06)The Friends Of Dentons Green Lane Park have now secured funding from WREN (£20,000) and YRCC (£4895). The final Section 106 payment should have been authorized by the time you read this. The design brief will be as follows, a 40/60% split on toddlers and juniors, respectfully on play equipment. Two goal ends with basketball hoops, facing each other and a youth shelter. We will also be installing low intensity lighting and it is hoped to liaise with the Youth Services to add a camera or two to the Youth Club's CCTV to safe guard it all. Planting of trees and shrubs with seats and litter/dog waste bins will complete the area. The existing basketball hoop will be placed to the rear of the youth club after the fence has been erected around the club. A design plan will be available before Christmas and will be shown to as many people as possible. Friends Of Dentons Green Park (12/08/07) You may know by now the work on the play equipment is now complete and the tidy up process has stated. The contractors have excelled themselves for us and carried out the work in record time, (no pun intended as the firm is in fact "RECORD RSS") in spite of the weather conditions. I would like to thank them on behalf of the committee and the residents of Kirk Sandall, Barnby Dun and Edenthorpe, I'm sure all the kids in the area will welcome this new equipment. The work has not yet finished however as we still have the planting to do in the autumn. There are many trees and shrubs to be planted around the equipment to soften the look and improve the area. The CCTV camera on the Youth Club has been redirected so the play area can be watch and we have assurances from the Police and PCSO's that they will keep an eye on proceedings and anyone found to be doing anything they should not be doing will be dealt with. I do know that two Public Order Notices have already been issued. Anyone is welcome to bring along their children form 0 to 90+ to play football, basketball, swing etc or just chill out on the many seats, picnic benches or shelter around the area. I would also like to thank WREN who contributed £20,000 to this project, Lisa Honeybone from DMBC Community First who got us a cracking deal for our money, all the hard work put in by the committee and DMBC for keeping the area clean and the grass well cut. Thank you Cllr Cliff Hampson
