The village of Benson, population 3,897 (2001), lies 10 miles southeast of Oxford and a similar distance northwest of Reading. It is located at the foot of the Chiltern Hills at the confluence of a chalk stream (Ewelme Brook) and the River Thames. The Chilterns is an area of outstanding natural beauty and the long distance Ridgeway path passes close by the village of Benson. Another long distance route, the Thames Path is also conveniently close by.
The village has a good road network and bus connections to local towns and cities, which, in turn, have main line rail links. The village is well served with a church, chapel, parish and youth halls, infant and junior schools, and about 12 shops as well as a boating marina and riverside cafe. Although Benson is sometimes described as a Dormitory Village, with the great proportion of the population travelling outside the confines for employment, it has retained it's community spirit with lively collection of clubs and societies to interest the population during their leisure time. This community has its own website through which you can find out about local information and how your local council is working for you.
