Welcome To Cricklade

(First town on the Thames)

Visitors will find that the people of Cricklade are very fond of their own town and when you converse with the locals you will find that there is a warmth and friendliness in their greeting and the sense of a great community spirit.

Cricklade is surrounded by lovely countryside and is ideal for walking, riding and cycling. At the north of the town is North Meadow, now a National Nature Reserve, and home to the rare 'Snakeshead Fritillary' which flower in April. The town is at the southern gateway to the Cotswold Water Park which offers sailing, water/jet skiing, fishing, bird watching and so the list goes on.

I believe the town is uniquely situated to benefit from tourism and I am sure this is where the future lies for the town. Still very much in its infancy, there are exciting developments emerging that will form the 'Cricklade Country Way'. This will offer great potential and the possibility of future prosperity for the town with talk of the re-establishment of the railways, canals and Sustrans national cycle-way route. The Town Council has acquired Fairview Fields for the people of Cricklade. This is being developed for further leisure and recreational pursuits and this is the location of the 'Millennium Wood'.

Cricklade welcomes all visitors and we hope that you will enjoy the treasures it has to offer. The Town Council website points you in the direction to explore and seek them out. The town's motto is 'in loco delicioso' and, as you amble your way around Cricklade, I am sure you will agree that you are 'in a delightful place'.

The Town Council website (follow the link below, bottom right), together with our printed Town Guide, aims to provide information about our historic Saxon town and its greatest asset, the people.
