THECOUNTY DURHAM REGISTERED TRADER SCHEME The Scheme has been set up to help consumers choose reputable tradesmen to carry out work in their homes. Businesses that have joined the scheme have been fully vetted by Durham County Council Trading Standards Service and have satisfied the rigorous audit procedure. PETERLEE KENPO have moved to the Fitness Factory, 6 Winchester Drive, South West Industrial Estate, Peterlee. This is part of the American Kenpo Karate Academy, adults meet on Wednesday from 7 to 8pm, Kenpo kids from 4.30 to 5.30pm and 5.30 to 6.30 pm, but this class is full, for further information tel; 5173942. BRIDGE CLUB - New members will be welcome at the Bridge group who meets each week in the Sunderland Road Community Centre, Horden (next to Moscadinis shop) on Monday from 7pm to 9pm. DURHAM DEAFENED SUPPORT GROUP formerly EAST DURHAM DEAFENED & HEARING IMPAIRED SUPPORT ON THE EDGE OF CONVERSATION - ONE OF THE LONELIEST PLACES ON EARTH. HOME INDEPENDENCE SERVICEThe Home Independence Shops are located throughout County Durham with a wide range of equipment to assist people at reasonable prices. We are very lucky to have one situated at the Peterlee Day Centre on Essington Way. Trained staff gives advice and guidance or an appointment can be made by an occupational therapist. Outreach services to individual people, groups or communities can be arranged by appointment. You dont have to have a handicap there are handy jar and bottle opener and a tool to open those awkward ring pulls. The centre is open on weekdays except Wednesday from 10am to 12.30pm and 1pm to 3.30pm. Tel: 0191 5183870. SHOPPABUS & COMMUNICARE - Registered charity (701793)A HELPING HAND TO GET TO THE SHOPSCommunicare buses get you to the shops, Bingo or hospital visiting. The 16-seater wheelchair friendly bus provides low cost transport; picks you up at the door, takes you to the shops and when you?ve completed your shopping, return you home. A friendly team of experienced drivers and passenger escorts will assist you to and from the bus and carry your shopping. The Dial-a Ride service operates between 2pm to 4pm and 6.30pm to 8pm. On Tuesday, Thursday and Friday you can be dropped off at Buckingham Bingo and collected at 3pm. This is a chance to make new friends and newcomers would be welcome. Walks start on Friday at 10am from Poundstretcher car park in Peterlee and on Wednesday at 10am from Wheatley Hill Community Centre. They are at Level 4 Room 14, Lee House, Upper Yoden Way, Peterlee.
