| The East of England Plan proposes to build 20,800 new homes in East Herts. What does East Herts think of the plan? "The proposals are flawed, based on flawed thinking and have been pushed through a deeply flawed and undemocratic process. The options are both unsustainable and illogical: dumping thousands of homes in the Green Belt will create environmental chaos." Mike Carver - East Herts Council Leader. The Facts. -

Mid/Late 2006 Publication of East of England Plan. If you are concerned about EERA's proposals you must make your views known to them by March 16 2005. What does this mean to my family? A possible 36% increase in the East Herts population - as many as 47,000 more people. This could mean an extra 10,000 under 17 year olds. An additional 2,500 under 4s needing to use Mother and Toddler groups, childminders or nurseries. Up to 3,700 new primary school places would have to be found and secondary schools would also need to cope with up to 3,500 new pupils. An increased population also means more people needing to travel. How would our already congested roads deal with up to 28,000 more cars? Our commuter trains may have to handle an additional 2,500 passengers every day. How would it affect our health service? To maintain current GP/patient ratios the increased population would require another 30 doctors. |
