CO2 and a BIG CON!
CO2, Mararet Thatcher, Al Gore and a big con! There is nothing wrong with wanting to look after planet earth. There is nothing wrong with protecting our environment. There is nothing wrong with working for clean air. But.......
There is everything wrong with what we are being told and the reasons governments want us all to go
GREEN!
Let me talk a bit about the CO2 issue and what we are being expected to believe. Governments are simply telling us that global warming is the result of increased greenhouse gas emission, mostly attributed to CO2. We are told that this is the reason for temperatures rising on our planet. We are also told that this is affecting our weather with dire consequences. We have been treated to a documentary by Al Gore that proves beyond doubt CO2 is the cause of temperature increases since the world began. It's the ice records.
On the face of it when you look at the evidence presented there can be no doubt that our planet is heating up and from the ice records, backed up with lots of graphs, pretty pictures of storms and expert opinions, that CO2 is indeed the problem.
However I don't believe a word of it and here is my belief on the subject, mostly taken from my own thoughts and a very informative Channel 4 programme that included an interview with one of the founder members of Green Peace (not named as I do not have permission)
The history of CO2 and Global warming
There is no doubt that the planet is warming up but what is really causing it?
Once upon a time in the early 1970s the BBC aired a very interesting programme about climate change. In this programme it became clear that the temperature of Earth was plummeting at an alarming rate and that we were heading for a mini ice age. Now, at the time, or rather just before shortly after the Second World War, the world industrialisation was growing at its fastest rate ever. In fact CO2 was being produced faster that ever before. This then seems a little odd as one would have expected the temperature to be on the increase rather than going down.
I remember this time and it was getting colder and colder. In my younger days I thoroughly enjoyed the winters and the snow.
At about the same time here in the UK we were having rather a lot of trouble with our mining community continually striking and plunging the country into darkness. Then along came Margaret Thatcher who was determined to break the miner's stranglehold. In addition, our Mrs Thatcher was rather keen to lessen our dependency on oil from the Middle East.
Now, here's the rub. In that BBC television programme there was a scientist being interviewed who was warning us about the coming ice age, but eluded to the possibility that because of our increased CO2 emissions the temperature might not drop too low because of the greenhouse effect and this could just save us from extinction keeping the new ice age temperatures a couple of degrees above total annihilation.
Dear old Mrs Thatcher sometime later jumped on this as a good reason to cut emission and save us from global warming. She even went as far a spending £10m for research to show that global warning due to CO2 was a nasty problem. She used this information in order to build nuclear power stations to break the miners and reduce Britain's dependency on the Middle East.
It is interesting to note, at this point, the fact that Britain was a lot warmer in the middle ages than it has been for a very long time. Temperatures now are a lot lower than they were then.
Now of course the Americans have jumped on the global warming band wagon and spent 100s of millions of dollars on research into the global warming problems and Britain is also pumping large amounts into similar research.
The highlight of this is a wonderful documentary by Al Gore that explains just how CO2 is causing the temperature of the earth to sore at alarming rates and by the way he says there is a mass of evidence in the ice caps that shows just how the temperature of the earth is linked to CO2 content in the atmosphere. This record goes back millions of years. The thing is that yes the two are linked and big Al's graph shows this very clearly.
So what we have now is a satiation were thousands of scientists rely on global warming for there livelihood and governments want to blame CO2 emissions. It is not difficult to understand why so few scientists are willing to come out and tell the world that CO2 is not actually the problem after all. Only a relatively small number have and guess what they no longer receive any funding.
There is one thing that stumps me when I think of global warming and that is why no one is looking at the sun. Well I suppose it hurts your eyes but it seem to me that given the size of it and the fact that it's throwing an extremely large amount of heating radiation at us it might be a good starting place, after all the sun is a very active body and is not constant. But I hear you cry Al Gore has it sorted just look at the ice record. Well let me tell you something about that record. It defiantly shows that temperature and CO2 increases are linked. But what he fails to tell you is that the ice record shows that when the temperature of the earth rises, CO2 in the atmosphere increases 800 years later. It is in fact the other way round. An increase in CO2 follows an increase in temperature. Rather vital that piece of information.
Going back to the sun; it can be shown that when the sun is particularly active, rays from outer space do not reach the earth in so much quantity as when the sun is less active. The result of this is less cloud formation. Clouds, you see, are formed when particles from space enter the atmosphere and water vapour condenses on the particles. When fewer clouds are formed, more of the suns energy can penetrate to earth and raise the temperature. Right now and for the last few years the sun has been rather more active than usual. Well that's hard to say because what's usual for a sun. However the sun is more active now than a few years ago.
This might explain why the earth is warming up, given that the CO2 argument does not hold water. It seems obvious to me that the levels of CO2 now in the atmosphere are less than in the industrial age and is not at a sufficient level to produce much in the way of a greenhouse effect anyway; we should look to the sun.
My big problem with this is that while governments use these things to justify their political actions we are not facing up to the real problem. We may spend billions on the effect of CO2 and other greenhouse gases and completely waste our time. We could reduce emissions to nothing and still face a much hotter world. Why are governments concentrating on CO2? I don't believe it's because they want to save the planet. But that is another discussion. Look out on www.thelocalchannel.co.uk/politics for an article on that a bit later. Keep checking, I am writing it and you will be able to read it soon.
