Greener holidays
You can apply the same greener choices you do at home when your on holiday. Read the points below to find out how! Air travel contributes hugely to Co2 emissions. The further we travel by air the more we contribute to climate change.
- Choose a destination close to home and take fewer longer holiday breaks rather than lots of short breaks.
- There is always a alternative from driving and air travel when going away for a longer period of time, on average, travelling by rail will result in about a third of the Co2 emissions of the equivalent domestic or short-haul flight in Europe
- Using sufficient driving techniques can reduce fuel consumption, reducing your environmental impact and saving you money.
- If hiring a car on holiday then try and opt for a greener model.
- Whilst on holiday, make the most of everything local, local food, drink, entertainment, activities and attractions.
- Switch off air conditioning, heating and lights whilst away from your accommodation.
- Try to not waste water. Some countries have water shortages - don't fill the kettle up if your only making one cuppa, don't have a deep bath, spend less time in the shower, etc
