Hawkchurch Parish Council

  1. Affordable Housing
  2. I am pleased to report that planning permission has now been granted for the Affordable Housing in the village. It may well be that we will even see some work done on the preparation of the site before the end of the this year.

  3. Elections
  4. Next May will see the end of the four year term of office of the present council. There are nine councillors on Hawkchurch Council and all of them will need to re-seek election if they wish to remain on the council for a further four years.

    At present the minimum age for a councillor is 21, however, I understand that this is going to be changed to 18; but am not sure if that legislation will be passed in time for the May elections.

  5. Grants
  6. At our last meeting (October) the council made grants to the Citizen's Advice Bureau, the Deon Air Ambulance and the Axe Valley and Bridport Ring and Ride Bus Scheme. All of these organisations provide services in one way or another to our community.

  7. Meetings

Council meetings for the remainder of 2006 will be on Tuesday 21st November and Tuesday 19th December. Meetings commence at 8pm and are held in the Village Hall at Hawkchurch. Whilst members of the public are not able to join in with discussions during the meeting a democratic period is set aside when you can raise a question or make a statement. We normally have our District Councillor and County Councillor present, who will also try and answer any queries you might have. On occasions our local police officer also attends and updates us on police matters in the area. If you have never attended one of our meetings why not give us a try. Rumour has it that if you attend the December meeting you might even get a mince pie!
